PRIVACY NOTICE FOR DISPLAY AND VIDEO MARKETING SERVICES

This privacy notice explains:

  • What consumer information we collect and how for display and video marketing services;
  • How we use and secure that information; and
  • The choices we offer you to control collection, use and sharing of information.

What information we collect and how for display and video marketing services

Cookies. “Cookies” are a feature in your browser software. A cookie is a small file that is sent to your computer when you view an advertisement delivered by Adconion or visit a website owned by Adconion (in each case, including our affiliates). A cookie provides anonymous information but it does not provide your name, your address or any other personal information.

Adconion Cookie. The cookie that is unique to Adconion Direct is called the “Adconion Cookie”. When end users visit a Web site of a publisher in our ad network, they may be identified through the Adconion Cookie. The Adconion Cookie is an anonymous data collection and targeting cookie used for behavioral targeted advertising. This allows our ad network to serve advertisements to end users and to better target and analyze consumer behavior with the goal of providing better and more relevant advertising. Through it, we may collect data about websites visited, content viewed, ad interaction, interaction with advertiser websites, search terms used, and other click and browsing behavior. The following is a detailed description of the Adconion Cookie:

Domain/host Cookie name Content/value Duration
.amgdgt.com ID Unique ID for the user 10 years
.amgdgt.com UA Recent event and behavioral data histories, as well as frequency capping data 30 days
.amgdgt.com LO Cached geographic information for the user 30 days
.amgdgt.com HF_* Internal IDs pertaining to the publisher and advertiser, which are used to match impressions to clicks for HREF ad requests. There may be up to five such cookies Session only

You are always free to decline cookies, but by doing so you may not be able to use certain features on Web sites. You can configure your Web browser to accept all cookies, reject all cookies, erase cookies, or notify you when a cookie is set. However, unless you opt out as described in “How to Control Your Information” below, your web browser may still be identified as described in the next paragraph.

Browser Identification. If you have not opted out, we may use a combination of non-personally identifiable information to identify your web browser for behavioral targeted advetising. This allows our ad network to serve advertisements to end users and to better target and analyze consumer behavior with the goal of providing better and more relevant advertising. We may use (i) a portion of the IP address (in Europe, no more than the first 24 bits of IPv4 or the first 64 bits of IPv6), (ii) certain HTTP header fields, (iii) cached anonymous identifiers and/or (iv) browser characteristics measurable through JavaScript. The information used to identify your web browser may vary based on geography in order to comply with local law. If you have opted out as described in “How to Control Your Information” below, we respect your choice and do not identify your web browser for behavioral targeted advertising.

Non-Persistent Anonymous Device Identifiers. To support behavioral targeted advertising on devices where cookies are not available (such as some mobile phones and smart televisions), we may use anonymous non-persistent device identifiers. Some examples of these are Apple’s Identifier for Advertising and Google’s Advertising ID. These identifiers are anonymous because we do not connect them to any of your personally identifiable information. We call these identifiers “non-persistent” because you can limit our use of the identifiers for behavioral targeted advertising by changing the settings on your device. Please consult the manual for your device for further information. (You cannot use the opt-out link below to limit our use of the identifiers for behavioral targeted advertising because the opt-out link requires cookies to work.)

IP Addresses (US/Canada Only, Not in Europe). We automatically collect information from your computer including your IP address. We may use this information to provide better and more relevant advertising to you. We may also use the information we collect for internal reporting purposes and to maintain and improve our services. This does not include collecting behavioral information, which is described under “Adconion Cookie” and “Browser Identification” above.

De-Identified Consumer Information (US/Canada Only, Not in Europe). In order to serve more relevant display and video advertising, we may use demographic data and categorical attributes of data gathered through our email business. Prior to using such data with our display or video business, all personally identifiable information such as your name, address, phone number and email address will be removed and the resulting data will be anonymized. We do not have the ability to associate or re-associate any personally identifiable information with any web users in connection with our display or video advertising. Use of the email marketing data is in compliance with our data partners’ privacy policies in effect when these data sets were collected.

De-Identified Performance Data (US Only/Canada, Not in Europe). In order to serve more relevant display and video advertising, we may use performance data, such as whether users have clicked on marketing emails in the past, gathered through our email marketing business. Prior to using such data with our display or video business, all personally identifiable information such as your name, address, phone number and email address will be removed and the resulting data will be anonymized. We do not have the ability to associate or re-associate any personally identifiable information with any web users in connection with our display or video advertising. Our use of the email marketing data is in compliance with our data partners’ privacy policies in effect when these data sets were collected.

Other Consumer Information. We may also collect non-personally identifiable information from other sources, such as online data exchanges.

What information we do not collect or use in our display and video marketing services

We do not collect sensitive health information. We target advertising for common everyday health topics such as colds, coughs and heartburn, but we do not collect information about past, present or potential future medical conditions or treatments or sex life.

We do not specifically target children (age 12 or under). We do not create segments for behavioral targeted advertising purposes that are specifically designed to target children aged 12 or under. Nor do we collect behavioral data when we run advertising on websites or online services where we have actual knowledge that the websites or online services are directed towards children aged 12 or under.

Other sensitive categories (Europe only). In Europe, we do not create or use segments for behavioral targeting purposes based on racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs or trade-union membership.

How we use the information for display and video marketing services

Providing Relevant Display and Video Ads. To perform display and video marketing services we use this information to tailor our clients’ ads and offers to the recipient’s interests. Ad serving information is kept on our servers up to two years for internal reporting purposes and may be kept longer in our off-line backups. Behavioral information used for targeting advertisements to you is stored both in cookies on your computer that expire after 30 days of inactivity and on our servers, where it is deleted after 45 days of inactivity. Because this behavioral information is also stored on these servers, it is not sufficient to simply delete your cookies if you wish to opt out of behavioral targeted advertising from Adconion. See “How to Control Your Information” below.

Sharing of Information with Affiliated Companies. We share your information throughout the Adconion group of affiliate companies to assist us with our business and technical functions. We also share your information with vendors who assist us with our business and technical functions. They are contractually bound to maintain confidentiality and security for the information we provide to them.

Sharing Information with Law Enforcement and for Legal Issues. We follow the laws of the countries in which we do business. If we receive a subpoena, court order, search warrant or other legal request that asks or directs us to disclose anonymous information, we may comply.

Sharing Information In Connection With Merger or Sale. If we enter into discussions to sell, merge or otherwise reorganize our business, we reserve the right to transfer and disclose all data (including personal and anonymous user information) to prospective and/or actual purchaser or investor(s). We will require that such purchasers/investors treat the transferred data as described in the privacy policy that exists prior to the change unless and until you consent to a new privacy policy.

How to control your information

You may opt out of behavioral targeted advertising based on the Adconion Cookie or based on browser identification via the following link. IF YOU ARE AN END USER AND DO NOT WANT THE ADVERTISING SERVED TO YOU TO BEHAVIOR TARGETED, CLICK HERE TO OPT OUT. After opting out, the cookies listed above will be cleared, and you will receive the following cookie instead.

Domain/host Cookie name Content/value Duration
.amgdgt.com OO The string “OptOut” 10 years

The Adconion opt-out functionality is cookie-based. In order for the opt-out to work on your computer, your Web browser must be set to accept cookies. If you buy a new computer, change Web browsers, or delete this cookie, you will need to perform the opt-out task again. If you decide to opt-out, advertisements may still be delivered to your Web browser on behalf of publishers using our ad network but those advertisements may not be as relevant to you because the advertisement request will only use information that is automatically transmitted with that request and not earlier information collected using an Adconion Cookie or browser identification.

You cannot use the opt-out link above to limit our use of non-persistent anonymous device identifiers for behavioral targeted advertising because we only use these identifiers on devices where cookies are not available, and the opt-out link requires cookies to work.

Advertisers and third-party ad networks may also participate in our ad network and may also utilize cookies to deliver advertisements and monitor the performance of such advertisements. Many third-party ad networks have agreed to provide an “opt out” mechanism for their ad cookies. The collection of information through cookies by such third parties will be governed by their own privacy policies and practices, over which Adconion has no control. Many third-party ad networks have agreed to provide an “opt out” mechanism for their ad cookies. In Europe, Adconion also adheres to the principles adopted by the EDAA’s self-regulatory initiative including the use of the Ad Choices icon in behaviourally targeted display advertising. For more information about this programme, please visit www.youronlinechoices.eu.

Some web browsers include a “Do Not Track” request in the HTTP header. At this time, Adconion does not alter its behavior or change its web services upon receiving a “Do Not Track” request. If you wish to opt out of behavioral targeted advertising, you should use the “opt out” link above and/or configure your device to limit our use of non-persistent anonymous device identifiers.
